Running Shorts Winter 2022

Sad news to report. The YRRC has lost another longtime member and one of the club’s founders, Don Smaltz! Don recently passed away at age 87. Don had quite a running and coaching record through the years. He was a YRRC Hall of Fame inductee as well as the Curbstone Coaches. Don was honored last year by the Poland Track and Cross Country Teams for his dedication to their programs over the years. He led an exemplary and fulfilled life that impacted thousands of students, that he taught or coached. Don will be missed by many and we thank him for the memories.

Correction to the Hall of Fame last newsletter, Becky Rudzik was a 2014 inductee into the YRRC Hall of Fame and was accidentally omitted from that list!

2023 Dates to Remember

  • JANUARY 15th – Chili Run

    8:30AM @ Old Log Cabin in Mill Creek Metroparks. 2.4, 4.2 & 6.5 mile runs, followed by hot chili and cornbread. Runners are welcome to bring their favorite chili, cornbread, drinks or other snacks to share.

  • FEBRUARY 12th – Valentine’s Run

    8:30AM @ Old Log Cabin in Mill Creek Metroparks. 2.4, 4.2 & 6.5 mile runs. Potluck to follow, please bring a dish to share!

  • MARCH 19th – Pancake Run

    8:30AM @ Birch Hill Cabin in Mill Creek Metroparks. 2, 3.5 & 5.7 mile runs, followed by fresh pancakes and sausage.

  • MARCH 26th – Mill Creek Distance Classic

    Starts at the Davis Center in Mill Creek Metroparks. Runners and volunteers needed!

  • JUNE 26th – Club Picnic & Awards Dinner

    6PM @ Birch Hill Cabin. Run before or during the dinner portion (dinner begins at 6PM). 2, 3.5 & 5.7 miles. Awards presented after dinner. Please bring a dish to share!

  • DECEMBER 10th – Club Holiday Party

    8:30AM @ Birch Hill Cabin in Mill Creek Metroparks. 2, 3.5 & 5.7 mile runs, followed by our annual holiday potluck. Please bring a dish to share!

Membership Renewals
Please remember to renew your annual membership in December because we have to pay the Road Runners Club of American dues and insurance before January 1st and send in our roster before the first club event of the year.
